Best crossword puzzles for Android

Crossword puzzles are popular word games. They tease your brain, teach you new things, and are a fun but relaxing way to pass the time. There are a huge number of crossword puzzles on Android. Most of them work in about the same way. You get the puzzles, you solve them, and that’s it. However, there are some that are superior for a variety of reasons, such as difficulty, controls, design and uniqueness.

CodyCross
CodyCross is a fascinating mix of quizzes and crossword puzzles. It has a set category, and all the clues revolve around that single premise. You go one at a time and answer all the questions you can. The game includes hundreds of puzzles, cloud sync, and four difficulty modes. You can buy more packs for tokens or subscribe to unlock everything. We definitely don’t recommend the subscription method, but the free version is good enough to kill time.

Crossword Puzzles with Friends
Crosswords with Friends is Zynga’s version of the crossword puzzle genre. You play it competitively with friends, AI, or random people online. There are new puzzles every day, containing mostly modern pop culture clues. The game also has leaderboards, weekly challenges, puzzle sets, and a hint system if you need one. You basically solve one part of the puzzle and pass it on to your opponent to solve one. It’s more traditional in look and play, but with arcade and social media elements.

Mysterious Crossword Puzzle.
Cryptic Crossword is one of the few good premium crossword puzzles. It has a flat price with no additional in-app purchases or ads. The game has 260 puzzles, an answer checking system, a scalable grid, and several additional customization features. It’s similar to what we’d expect from a traditional crossword game. It’s just you, a crossword puzzle, and a whole list of clues. There are enough puzzles to keep you occupied for a while. The developer also has some additional crossword puzzles.

English Crossword
English Crossword is another of the traditional crossword puzzles. The game features over 400 self-contained puzzles, different themes and a hint system if you need it. The game is definitely written in American English, not British English. Many of the clues are also U.S.-oriented. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but something to keep in mind. You also get achievements, cloud sync, and leaderboards. It’s a good regular crossword puzzle, and the prices aren’t too high.

ISTG Crossword Puzzle.
ISTG Crossword Puzzle Free is a decent crossword game for those on a tight budget. It’s completely free, with no in-app purchases, although there are ads. There are over 400 puzzles in the game, and they are all available offline. It also has more than 100 puzzles in Spanish and 50 in Portuguese. Most of the complaints we found were about the U.S.-oriented hints and spelling of words. There are also a few bugs in the app. Not much else about it. It’s decent, it has lots of puzzles, and it’s free with bearable ads.

New York Times Crossword Puzzle.
The New York Times Crossword is one of the most expensive crossword puzzles on the list. However, it is also one of the most famous. It boasts more than 20 years of experience solving crossword puzzles for subscribers, as well as fresh puzzles every week. There’s also a mini-crossword mode that you can access for free without a subscription. There are enough crossword puzzles here to last you a very long time, although you will have to pay each month to access them. However, there is a lot of free content as well. The app definitely needs some tweaking, but the content is solid.

The perfect crossword puzzle picture.
Picture Perfect Crossword is another hybrid crossword game. Instead of traditional words, it uses pictures as clues. It doesn’t change the experience much, but it adds a bit of variety to the game. The game includes hundreds of puzzles, Facebook integration, a hint system and fresh puzzles on a regular basis. It probably won’t appeal to hardcore crossword puzzle fans, but it’s more than enough for those who want to kill a few minutes.

Redstone Games Crosswords.
Redstone Games has another pretty decent crossword puzzle. The site says it’s free, but you can buy a lot of content there, so we won’t let you know that it is. It’s a pretty typical traditional crossword puzzle game. You get clues, fill in the boxes, and hope for the best. The game tells you when the answer is wrong and gives you clues if you need them. It’s also playable offline, and it gets a decent amount of fresh content all the time. Most of this fresh content is free, but not all. That should put many crossword puzzle fans at ease.
