Scrabble is a word game for 2, 3 or 4 players. The game consists of composing interconnected crossword words on the Scrabble playing field, using pits with letters, which have different values of points. The aim of the game is to get the most points. Players compete by placing their letter pits in such combinations and positions to get the most benefit from the value of letters and prize cells on the board. The total total total score of the game can range from 400 to 800 points or more, depending on the skill of the players.
The story of Scrabble’s creation in 1931 is interesting. Since then, Scrabble has become a “classic of the genre” and has acquired an army of fans around the world. This board game is still the most beloved family game and at the same time, attracts a lot of professional players – the English version of Scrabble international competitions are held, all over the world there are many clubs of Scrabble fans.
A move in the board game Scrabble
The player who acts first lays out the word vertically or horizontally (so that one of the letters is on a special sector of the field marked as a star). After each word laid out, the player announces the number of points earned per word (it is better to write the results on a sheet). After the move, participants replenish the number of their chips to seven. The following players can put several words on the board at once using chips (they get points for everything). Several “highlights” add interest to the game. Firstly, empty chips that can be used as any letter. Secondly, sectors of different colors that double the points of the chips placed on them. Thirdly, you can lay out all the chips at once and earn 50 bonus points. And finally, each participant can drop some or all of their chips instead of a move and replace them from the bag.
The purpose of the game
The gameplay ends when all the letters have been removed from the bag, or when one of the participants has used all their letters on the field and the game is impossible for any player.
Strategy features
Experienced players are advised to learn rare words to increase their chances of winning. Also, beginners are advised to learn as many words of three and two letters as possible. It is useful to save space for possible teaching of big words and to keep the grid of letters in harmony (between consonants and vowels). The secret of success for many players is that they place letters with high scores on colored sectors that double the score. Sometimes lose a few points to prevent your opponent from earning even more – do not put vowels next to colored sectors, do not make life easier for your neighbors. Pay attention to the words that you teach: it is so easy to add one or two letters to some of them and get a new word more valuable in terms of points (kat – boat).
Left alone – do not be bored! You can play Scrabble alone. Play as usual, and you will be your opponent only in the next game (that is, you will compare the number of points earned in different games).
